Why Is My Water Heater Not Heating Up Despite Resetting the Button?

Resetting usually won’t restore hot water if there’s an underlying fault. Likely causes include a failed heating element or thermostat (electric), a bad igniter or gas valve (gas), a tripped breaker, or heavy sediment that overheats the tank and trips the reset. Tankless units may lock out from error codes or blocked venting. If the reset trips again, stop and call a pro to avoid damage. Our $89 Water Heater Tune-Up can flush sediment, check safety valves, and spot failures early in Boston and nearby.
